Configuring Gateway

Rainmail Server, when implemented as a Firewall, can control all network traffic from LAN to Internet and vice-versa. For this, the clients need to be told to direct all traffic to Internet through Rainmail Server. This can be done by setting Rainmail Server as Gateway in the client machine.

In this section, we will see how DNS can be set as Rainmail Server for Windows 7. For other OS, a similar set of steps will be required.

  1. Click on Start button and select Control Panel. That will bring up the control panel as below

  1. Click on View network status and tasks. That will bring up the following screen

  1. In the above screen, click on Change adapter settings. In the screen that comes up, Right click and on Local Area Connection and select Properties. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. In the above dialog, select Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties. That will bring up the following dialog

  1. Enter the IP address of Rainmail Server in the edit box corresponding to Default gateway.
  2. Click on Ok for all the dialogs.
  3. Now the client machine has been configured to use Rainmail Server as network gateway.
